Backups and moving Macs

Back up your saved Docks and restore copies on another Mac.

Make a backup

  1. Open Dockset’s Settings → General.
  2. Under Saved Docks, click Back Up….
  3. Choose where to save the backup file.

The backup contains your saved macOS and Custom Dock profiles, including their names, colors, items, and saved widget configuration.

Restore your Docks

  1. On the destination Mac, open Settings → General.
  2. Click Restore… and choose your Dockset backup file.
  3. Open Manage Docks… to review the restored profiles, then select the one you want to use.

Restore adds copies. It does not replace your existing profiles or switch your active Dock automatically. Restoring the same backup again adds another set of copies.

What to set up again

A Dockset backup contains layouts, not the apps or files they point to. Install the apps and move any referenced files and folders to the new Mac. Re-add items whose paths have changed.

Reconnect account integrations, grant macOS permissions, and check the selected calendars and reminder lists. Integration credentials, your license activation, keyboard shortcuts, and app-wide appearance settings are not included in the profile backup.

Dockset stores profiles locally. Back Up and Restore provide a manual transfer between Macs; changes do not sync automatically. See Licenses and updates for activation on another device.
